Free rotating shift schedule generator

Build 2-2-3, 4-on-4-off, or DuPont rotating schedules in seconds. No sign up. Set your start date, number of teams, and how many days to generate—then download a ready-to-use Excel file with day, night, and off columns.

Who it’s for and how it works

This tool is for operations managers, HR, and team leads who need fair rotating shift coverage. You choose a pattern (2-2-3, 4-on-4-off, or DuPont), pick a start date and how many days to generate, and add your team names. The generator outputs an Excel spreadsheet with one row per date and one column per team, with cells labeled Day, Night, or Off and color-coded for quick scanning.

All patterns use 12-hour shifts. The file includes a frozen header row so you can scroll long schedules without losing context. Use it as-is or tweak formulas and formatting in Excel after download.

Generate your schedule

Using 4 team names.

After you generate, open the .xlsx in Excel. You can edit team names, extend dates, or adjust colors. No account needed—everything runs in your browser.

Common questions

What is a 2-2-3 rotating shift?

A 2-2-3 pattern means 2 days on, 2 off, 3 on (then 2 off, 2 on, 3 off, and so on). It’s common in manufacturing and healthcare. This generator builds the full rotation so each team gets the same sequence over time.

Can I use more than 4 teams?

Yes for 2-2-3: you can pick 2–6 teams. DuPont and 4-on-4-off are fixed at 4 teams; if you select more, the tool uses 4.

Is the Excel file editable?

Yes. The file is a normal .xlsx. You can change labels, add columns, or extend the date range in Excel after downloading.
